Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as an general reporter. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She has covered several notable stories over time, including budget reform, tax reform, and an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled extensively along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
